They were rather stiff and rubbed quite a bit- especially during the first few wears. Hurt like heck, but in the end, totally worth it. Essentially, this happens with every new pair of boots I buy. I plan on having these boots for the long haul. My last pair of 875's lasted about 5 years! I'd still be wearing them today, but I left them at a camp site by mistake! Also- don't pay full price for these... check back daily, as their price fluctuates quite a bit! I bought these boots to replace a pair of Doc's that I was able to destroy in 6 months of wear. I wear boots to work six days per week and spend the entire time standing on hard, slippery surfaces in a kitchen environment. The soles of my retired Doc's were worn smooth and had split wide-open, so I am hoping that Red Wing boots will outlast the sadly departed pair.My first three days have been torture. The boots are challenging me to break them in. My ankles are rubbed raw at the collar of the boot and my smallest toe is killing me. As far as support and comfort, the overall sense I have is that they may one day be very comfortable to wear and may possibly provide great support. As of the end of the third day, I view them as adversaries. Gimme a week and another bottle of advil to really know if I will like them enough to justify the cost.
